Get into the habit of setting a reminder to alert you to upcoming renewals and big expenditure items. This minimises surprises and means you can take action to ensure you have time to switch to better deals and have the money to cover the cost.
The following items are some of the items in my calendar: I put a reminder set for the 1st of the month before renewal is due.
